Privacy Policy

Because you probably didn't read this anyway, but the lawyers (and the feds) said we had to write it. Here is what we know about you.

1. The Stuff We Hoard

Look, we're not Mark Zuckerberg, but we do need some data to make this app work. Here's what we collect when you use Anek:

  • Your Name & Username: So we can call you something other than "Hey you".
  • Profile Picture & Media: Stored safely in the cloud (Cloudinary to be exact). Make sure it's a good angle. P.S. We might also see EXIF data (like when/where the photo was taken) if you don't strip it.
  • Precise Location Data (GPS): When you report an issue, we grab the exact latitude and longitude. Otherwise, nobody would know where that missing manhole cover actually is.
  • Your Reports, Comments, & Votes: The issues you post, the snarky comments, and every single upvote you cast. We keep them safe in our MongoDB database. Yes, we see you complaining about that pothole for the 5th time.
  • Good Citizen Points (GCP) & Ledger: We track exactly how you earn and spend your points, right down to the specific coffee voucher you redeemed. No secret hoarding.
  • IP Address & Device Info: Like literally every website on the internet, our servers might log your IP address, browser type (User-Agent), and session tokens just to make sure you're not a hacker trying to DDOS us.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your data strictly for making the app functional, rewarding you for doing good deeds, and showing off your rank on the leaderboard.

  • We DO NOT sell your data to shady ad companies. Honestly, nobody wants to buy a list of people complaining about broken streetlights anyway.
  • We DO use it to verify you're a real human and not a bot spamming the community board.
  • We DO show your public reports and comments to other users. It's a community app, bro. Don't post what you don't want seen.

3. Cookies & Local Storage

We use Local Storage (which is basically cookies but slightly cooler and faster) to keep you logged in, remember your dark mode preference, and store your session tokens. Clear your browser cache and you'll log yourself out. Skill issue.

4. Can I Delete My Stuff?

Yeah, absolutely. If you want out, just let us know or hit the delete button (if we ever get around to building it). Your account will be marked as deleted and we'll pretend you never existed.

P.S. We might still keep anonymous stats around, because graphs go brrrr.
